Under 12s Match Reports

12th Sept Donside 1 : 1 Banchory Eagles

An evenly fought game at Alford saw Thow rounding the keeper early on to give the young Eagles an early lead, but they did not have things there own way. Strachen in goal made a series of good saves, but was helpless as a long range Donside effort in the latter stages of the match looped over him and into the goal. Two very late opportunities for the Eagles to snatch a win just went wide and a draw probably a fair reflection at the end. Miller and Cuthbertson made their debut each for the team and played as if they had always been in the side. A well balanced friendly, played in good spirit, we wish Donside all the best for the forthcoming season.

Team: B.Strachen, Miller, Sangster, Davidson, MacKay, M.Smith, Cuthbertson, Thow (1), Duffy, Isaac.

19th Sept Banchory Eagles 2 : 2 Peterhead BC

Banchory maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a hard-fought draw against a well organised Peterhead side. With the game kicking off in heavy rain and an even heavier pitch it was a credit to both sides that they concentrated on playing a passing game. Peterhead created the first real opportunity when a fierce shot was well held by Strachan in the Banchory goal. The Eagles responded when a through ball from Issac was met by the lively Davidson who fired just past. Banchory started to turn the screw and after a series of corners the ball fell to Pearson in midfield. His measured pass found Hector who side-stepped his marker a hit a beauty into the far bottom corner.

End of First Period: Banchory Eagles: 1 : 0 Peterhead BC.

The second period began with Thow taking over from Strachan in goal, the latter having damaged a finger just before the whistle. This enforced change didn't seem to effect our local heroes as they continued to create and pass up a series of half chances and a couple of whole chances. They would ultimately pay for such profligacy. Peterhead were starting to gain a foothold in the game and following a superb double save from stand-in keeper Thow the home defence was breached when a cross/shot eluded everyone a nestled in the back of the net. Banchory almost provided the perfect reply when a lob from Isaac rebounded off the upright.

End of Second Period: Banchory Eagles: 1 : 1 Peterhead BC.

The final period continued in similar fashion to the previous two with Banchory creating most of the chances as the attempted to get the winner. Midway through the period the ball was collected by Thomson in midfield and with few options availabe to him he fired a superb shot low into the net from 25 yards. "Screamer! Cracker! Nice one George!" cried the home fans. "Jings, Crivens, Help ma Boab!" said the away fans. "Was it a goal? What's the score now?", asked the bewildered MAGS. Despite a slender lead the Eagles were playing with confidence and created another excellent chance before being hit by the sucker punch. Another speculative effort finding its way into the home net.

A good game played in the right spirit. A little more clinical in front of goal and the Eagles would surely have been celebrating a comfortable victory.

Final Score: Banchory Eagles: 2 : 2 Peterhead BC.

Team: B Strachan, G Thow, C.Smith, F.Pearson, N.Davidson, R.Isaac, R. Hector (1), F.Strachan, G.Thomson (1), J.Wright.

26th Sept Paul Lawrie Foundation 2 : 3 Banchory Eagles

A hard fought game saw the Eagles take the lead with a long range dipping effort by Cuthebertson. Some good possession by the home side saw them taking a 2-1 lead. The Eagles dug deep, playing some good football themselves, scoring two goals by Hector and Pearson, and hanging on towards the end after defending a series of corners.

Team: B.Strachen, Miller, Sangster, M.Smith, Duffy, Cuthbertson (1), Pearson (1), Hector(1), Davidson, Morrison.

3rd October Banchory Eagles: 0 : 5 Stonehaven Madrid

Banchory's unbeaten start to the season ended with defeat to a Stonehaven side who executed the perfect away performance. A well-organised defence coupled with slick passing and incisive finishing. As good as Stonehaven were, the Eagles contributed to their own downfall with an uncharacteristic performance lacking in cohesion. During the close season two of Banchory's top performers, Jamie Rennie and Alistair Shrive were recruited by the mighty Dundee FC. A real feather in the cap for the Eagles' coaching staff and great for the players' development but very difficult two replace their undeniable attributes. Imagine Liverpool without Gerrard and Torres, Barcelona without Iniesta and Messi or "I'm a Celebrity" without Ant and Dec! Dundee however are no longer quite so mighty. Their dramatic and sudden fall from grace has angered and upset this particular reporter, a fan of 35 years. One consequence of Dundee's imminent demise could see the aforementioned young Eagles flying back to the nest. Every cloud etc etc.

17th October Banchory Eagles: 3 : 3 Aberdeen FC

A bright, crisp but cold autumn day welcomed the first meeting of the young Eagles with AFC, a side comprising, as you would expect, some of the most promising players within the age bracket. Banchory were keen to bounce back from the recent reverse to Stonehaven. As the game kicked-off it was immediately evident that the AFC players, despite being slightly younger, were all comfortable on the ball and they began on the front foot. A series of corners and a couple of smart saves from Thow in the Banchory goal served to emphasise AFC's early dominance. Against the run of play however, the Eagles take the lead. A cross from the left wing by Hector is turned in at the near post by the ever alert Duffy. The Eagles took heart from the goal and the tide quickly turned in their favour. Two successive chances were created before they doubled their lead with the move of the game. C Smith won the ball in his own half, skipped past the next defender and threaded a perfect pass through to M.Smith who finished with style. The Eagles' superiority was confirmed when they added a third just before the whistle. Good play again on the left and the ball finds Pearson whose fierce shot takes a slight deflection on its way into the back of the net.

End of First Period: Banchory Eagles: 3 : 0 AFC.

AFC were the next to score, pulling a goal back early in the second the period. A speculative shot takes a cruel deflection to bring the away side back into the game. This gave the Aberdeen side fresh impetus and although Banchory created some good chances it was AFC who held the upperhand for the rest of the match adding two further goals to earn themselves a draw. At one point during the third period a member of the assembled sideline "experts" was kind enough to point out to the referee that he may have made a small error of judgement in favour of the home side. Ref Duffy returned the sentiment by suggesting that the dissenter take over the refereeing duties. The kind offer was declined and Ref Duf continued to perform his duties with the utmost integrity.

Final Score: Banchory Eagles: 3 : 3 AFC

A good game with the Eagles taking the early initiative but great credit going to the young Dons for never giving up.

24th October 2010. Banchory Eagles 7 : 1 ALC Lewis.

Another bright, sunny morning greeted the teams although some heavy overnight rain had left the some areas waterlogged which neccesitated moving the pitch from it's usual location. The slightly unfamiliar surroundings seemed to have a disorienatating effect on the young Eagles during the opening exchanges with the visitors carrying the early attacking threat and Banchory looking aprehensive. The Eagles paid the price for their sluggish start with Lewis taking the lead midway through the first period. This served as a wake up call to the home side as they quickly wrestled the initiative and proceeded to dominate the match from that moment on. Lewis were struggling to cope with the pace and directness of Banchory's four-pronged attack consisting; Davidson, Hector, Pearson and Thomson and it was the latter who, with a smart turn and shot for the equalizer, kick-started the comeback. The home side suffered a setback however, when the impressive right back, Strachan limped out of the game with an ankle knock. The strength of the Banchory squad was evident however as his replacement, Millar went on to perform magnificently in his defensive role and the change did not interupt the pattern of the game as Thomson scored his and Banchory's second with another turn and shot which squirmed over the line between the unlucky keeper and the post.

End of First Period: Banchory Eagles: 2 : 1 ALC Lewis.

The second period was 10 minutes old before we had the first meaningful shot on goal; a free kick to the visitors, deflected for a corner. Within a minute Banchory extended their lead when Pearson embarked on a lung-bursting run down the right wing, squared the ball to Thomson who neatly rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home to complete his hat-trick. Confidence was soaring within the home ranks and centre-half Duffy, after going close on two occassions was on hand to prod the ball home from close range. Almost from the restart Millar intercepted a pass in his on half and threaded a pass through to Duffy whose shot found the far corner to complete a highly satisfactory period.

End of second Period: Banchory Eagles: 5 : 1 ALC Lewis.

The final period saw the home side defend comfortably whilst counter-attacking with real purpose. As the Lewis team pushed forward in search of a way back into the match, the speed of the Eagles' breakaways were a joy to behold. After passing up a couple of chances a ball into the box caused confusion to all within five yards of it except Thomson, who took control of the situation lashing the ball home from close range. The scoring was complete when a shot from Davidson, saved by the Lewis keeper, rebounded to the grateful Pearson who fired home for the Eagles' "magnificent seventh".

There just time for Thow in the home goal to prove his concentration levels had not waned by expertly tipping over from point blank range.

Final Score: Banchory Eagles: 7 : 1 ALC Lewis.

A highly satisfactory result from the home side and comfortably their most cohesive and confident display of the season. Ominous signs for the rest of the league!

31st October: Albion B.C: 7 : 2 Banchory Eagles

It's halloween and away days don't come any scarier than a trip to the all-conquering Albion. The horror show started from the kick-off and by the end of the first period the Eagles were four goals down. With the coaching staff and supporters expecting a continuation of the nightmare as the second period got underway the away side started to click. Pearson tapped in from close range to reduce the deficit, the confidence returned and the remainder of the match was evenly contested with Banchory defending well and breaking with pace. Numerous chances were created and passed up before Davidson completed the scoring with a tap in after Thow had lobbed the Albion keeper.

Not an unexpected result against a physical Albion side but whilst Coach Hector will be rueing the tentative, disjointed start to the game he'll be encouraged by the character shown by his side to force their way back into the match and cause Albion some problems.

7th November. Middlefield Wasps B.C. 5 : 8 Banchory Eagles

Match report to follow.

14th November. Banchory Eagles: 5 : 1 Dyce B.C.

The season's most convincing performance and result was as welcome as it was unexpected. Incisive passing, ruthless tackling and clinical finishing ensured a margin of victory which in no way flattered the home team. In fact, it could have been more!

The opening exchanges were dominated by Banchory with several chances going narrowly wide or saved by the excellent Dyce keeper. The Eagles paid for their wastefulness as Dyce scored with just their second attack. Disappointingly their goal came via a header from the smallest member of their team. It is said that a team are at their most vulnerable having just scored and so it proved. During the the home side's next attack Pearson found Duffy in a crowded penalty area and the latter finished from close range to restore parity.

End of first Period: Banchory Eagles: 1 : 1 Dyce BC.

If the home side were profigate in front of goal in the first period they were positively deadly in the second. From the right wing Pearson found Cutherbertson in front of goal and a smart side foot shot past the Dyce keeper restored the Eagles' lead. Confidence was flowing through the Banchory ranks and they extended their lead with another close range shot, Davidson finishing after more good work from Pearson. The goal of the game followed soon after, or at least we thought so at the time. A wonderful passing move found Davidson wide right, the diminutive forwrd stepped inside and curled a left foot shot into the far corner of the net. Worth the admission fee alone!

End of Second Period: Banchory Eagles: 4 : 1 Dyce B.C.

Shock and disbelief was rife amongst the home support over the interval refreshements when an avid fan and prominent local businessman casually announced that the global demand for biscuits is oustripping supply thus driving up the price of the popular tea-break snack. The chocolate hob-nob may soon be a thing of the past, with the humble custard cream taking it's place. Match days may never be the same again.

The final period continued with Banchory defending well and looking dangerous on the break. Talk about leaving the best 'till last. With the last kick of the game Millar latched onto a Dyce clearance around the halfway line and sent a vicious dipping shot over the keeper and high into the net. Goal of the season contender and a fitting way to end a great all round performance from the home side.

Final Score: Banchory Eagles 5 : 1 Dyce B.C.

New Season

Sunday, 6th March 2011

Banchory Eagles 5 : 2 Glentanar B.C.

A new season and a radical step forward for Scottish football. As the "blazers" at the SFA pontificate on the future of the game; ten team league, play-offs, SPL2, goal-line technology, hob-nobs at half time for all supporters, the under 11s are showing the way as pioneers of the beautiful game. Summer football has been poo-poo'd by the association football hierarchy for decades, it's now up to the kids to revolutionize the game.

Summer football does bring it's own issues; holidays, The Banchory Show, sunburn and it will still rain, but at least it will be warm rain.

On to the first match of this exciting new era. The Eagles dominated the chances in a keenly contested affair although not neccesarily the possession. Over the first period and into the second Glentanar seemed to have all the time they needed in midfield and the lack of understanding and cohesion which is often evident within the home side at the beginning of a game was once again prevalent.

The Eagles slowly assumed control and ran out comfortable winners with some excellent interplay, precision passing and deadly finishing from close range. In fact of all five goals, scored by R.Hector (2), N.Morrison, N.Davidson and L.Duffy were tap-ins. The latter's hooked effort, dispatched from two yards out was the furthest from goal. They were literally trying to walk the ball into the net...well, if it's good enough for Barcelona!

A good performance and result avenging the recent reverse away to Glentanar. A stiffer test will be presented next in the shape of Dyce BC and a quick and concentrated start to the game will be vital.

Unbeaten this season, don't you just love summer football!

Banchory Eagles 1 : 6 Dyce B.C.

Summer football continues and the contrary properties of global warming are ominously evident. Last week the match was postponed due to four inches of snow and freezing temperatures, this week a balmy 14 degrees greeted the teams as the assembled supporters gleefully cast layers like the guests on an 18-30 holiday. Coach Duffy allegedly asked to perform his refereeing duties in a pair of crocs and a mankini, thankfully common sense prevailed and such a blatant act of unnecessary exhibitionism was denied. Gok Wan would have had his work cut out!

Today saw the visit of the all-conquering Dyce BC. A strong, confident side with no little skill, would prove too tough a task for the much-changed Banchory side. The young Eagles, as is customary, began by handing the lead to the opposition within two minutes of the kick-off; a static defence watched as a scuffed shot found it's way apologetically into the net. Not exactly "straight from the training ground", but then again, neither was the defending. It could have been two almost from the restart but for a superb save from Thow in the home goal, tipping a fierce shot over the bar. The rest of the first period continued in similar fashion with pressure on the Banchory defence resulting in two more excellent saves from Thow and a goal line clearance from Smith. Somehow the score remained at just 1-0 to the visitors at the whistle.

The second period began in similar fashion but this time Dyce made their superiority pay with a superb curling shot into the top corner. I believe such a goal is currently referred to as a "worldy" by the less erudite of football pundits. Another, former pundit may have added that, "you just don't save those". Strangely this seemed to act as a wake up call for the Eagles and following a superb lung-busting run from Thomson which was deflected over, Strachan burst forward and released Duffy who calmly rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home to cut the deficit. Duffy was through again moments later in a carbon copy of the first goal, he again side-stepped the keeper but the angle was to prove too tight and the ball was scrambled clear. Dyce broke upfield and immediately restored their two goal advantage.

A fiercely competitive match passed off without incident. The only point of controversy occurred when Coach Duffy, frustrated at the blatant time-wasting tactics employed by the canteen staff, was forced to resume his refereering duties without his customary cup of tea; a small jammy dodger was scant reward for his efforts and although providing the desired sugar rush to see him through the remaining twenty minutes, dehydration was becoming a real concern.

Several changes in personel and a visible tiring of the home players resulted in three late goals for the away team . The margin of defeat, (1 : 6) does flatter the visitors, they were the better and more clinical side but for 40 mintutes the Eagles ran themselves into the ground, closing down and creating chances of their own. A courageous display which bodes well for the sunny season ahead.

Peterhead 3 : 8 Banchory Eagles

It's a bright, sunny but cold spring morning as the Eagles and their loyal band of supporters make the long trip north. Passports accepted, Banchory arrive for a mutually agreed, later kick-off of 11a.m.

The match starts in unfamiliar fashion with Banchory taking the initiative from the first whistle. A shot from Hector is well saved but from the resulting corner Pearson heads home to put the Eagles ahead. Despite almost total dominance from the away side, Peterhead draw level thanks to an own goal via the unfortunate Sangster. An open, free-flowing game followed with chances for both sides culminating with a slick move involving Sansgster, Duffy and Pearson; the latter grabbing his second of the game.

End of First Period: Peterhead 1 : 2 Banchory Eagles.

The ding-dong battle resumed in the second period with Davidson pouncing on a long clearance from Strachan to calmly stroke the ball home and extend the Eagles' lead. The home reply was swift as a shot from distance reduced the deficit. Both sides exchanged scoring opportunities without further goals.

End of Second Period: Peterhead 2 : 3 Banchory Eagles.

If Banchory were in control in the second period they assumed complete dominance in the closing stages. The woodwork was struck three times before Pearson claimed his hat-trick. Hector, who had been waging a personal battle with the frame of the goal finally earned his reward, although not until the ball had cannoned off both posts before finding the net. Goals quickly followed from Duffy and seconds for both Davidson and Hector. The final word went to the home side as they grabbed a late consolation.

A resounding victory for Banchory. The manner of the victory and the number of chances created will have pleased Coach Hector and his backroom staff.

Lewis United 6 : 1 Banchory Eagles

It's an away game against Lewis United so that must mean a trip to,..er...Potterton! Our nomadic hosts seem to have settled on this northern outpost as their new home. The game began in glorious sunshine vindicating all those who have been advocates of summer football. Whereas frostbite was a genuine concern a mere eight weeks ago, sunstroke was the burning issue of the day, particularly with the more follically-challenged supporter.

The first period was dominated by the home side with two long range efforts elluding Strachan in the Eagles' goal. As competent as a much changed Lewis team were, Banchory were strangely lethargic and guilty of ball-watching too often.

End of First Period Lewis Utd. 2 : 0 Banchory Eagles

The second period began with considerable improvement from the Eagles with Millar grabbing a foothold in midfield and Thomson's pace troubling the home defence. Despite a more equal contest, Lewis continued to pose a threat. Three quick goals in the final five minutes of the period was harsh on an improving Banchory side who were eventually rewarded when a corner was parried by the home keeper only for Thomson to gleefully drive the ball into the net.

End of Second Period: Lewis Utd 5 : 1 Banchory Eagles

Due to the absence of any MAGs it was left to the hardcore fans to provide refreshments. thanks go to C.Thow and his team for serving the teas, coffees and an impressive selection of biscuits.

As the temperature soared and the exposed skin sizzled the final period offered a more disciplined show from the Eagles who, despite creating several chances, succumbed to yet another long range shot to give the home side a deserved victory.

Sunday 1st May

Banchory Eagles 0 : 10 Albion B.C.

The relentless machine that is Albion B.C. paid Banchory a visit and proceeded to dismantle a spirited Eagles side.

The home side started well restricting their powerful opponents to speculative efforts from distance and with the defence, marshalled by keeper Strachan, frustrating the visitors it was very disappointing that the opening goal came, not from a well-worked goal, but from the head of defender Smith who, from under the crossbar, could do little to prevent the ball crossing the line. A second soon followed to give Albion a two goal lead at the end of the first period.

Albion scored immediately after the restart after which Banchory enjoyed an even share of possession and goal-scoring opportunities until another two strikes brought the second period to a close.

With the match won it was expected that the all-conquering Albion would concentrate on keeping possession and putting on a show of "exhibition football", instead the philosophy seemed to be to shoot on sight and score as many as possible. Shame!

The home side certainly deserved a goal for their efforts. To a man they kept going, kept their discipline and played the game with the right attitude. You can't ask for much more!

Sunday 15th May

Banchory Eagles 4 : 8 Culter Colts

A dry, but bracing Sunday morning welcomed the visit of Culter Colts to the hallowed turf of the King George V Park. Prior to kick-off all the players, coaching staff and supporters observed a repectful minute's silence in memory of local man, Kevin Strachan, who had sadly passed away earlier in the week. A fitting tribute from all in attendance.

Having been hit by a number of late call-offs due to illness and injury Coach Hector was forced to shuffle the pack with Davidson taking over the goalkeeping duties and one or two outfield players finding themselves in unfamiliar positions. Despite the upheaval, it was the Eagles who started the better. A shot from Thow which only just cleared the crossbar was followed by a series of half-chances until the inevitable happened; from Culter's first foray upfield they win a corner, not dealt with by the home defence, and poked in from two yards to put the visitors ahead. Banchory's response was immediate and incisive. A long-bursting run down the left wing from Millar ended with a first time cross finding Thow who expertly volleyed home from close range. The Eagles continued to press but were caught by the sucker punch again as Culter regained the lead. There was still time for Millar to crack a fierce shot off the crossbar before the whistle.

End of First Period: Banchory Eagles 1 : 2 Culter Colts

To quote an oft used footballing cliche; the second third was a game of two halves! Banchory created and squandered a host of chances before a terrific run from Pearson resulted in a pass to Hector who slammed the ball home for a well-deserved equaliser. The Eagles' tails were up and another run through midfield by Cuthbertson, a reverse pass to Hector and a first time shot into the net put the home side firmly in command.....then Culter scored three.. from three chances.... in five minutes!!!

End of Second Period:: Banchory Eagles 3 : 5 Culter Colts.

Culter scored again immediately after the restart, Banchory replied through Duffy with a deft chip over the advancing keeper. It was the visitors, however, who had the final say, but not before Duffy had hit the post, Millar shot just over and Pearson hit the side-netting.

Sunday 29th May

Banchory Eagles 5 : 7 Lewis Utd AFC

The Eagles welcomed Lewis Utd to Banchory looking to put an end to a poor run of results. The outcome was to prove familiar but the performance was a great improvement on recent outings.

Characteristically, the home side started slowly and were two down and staring down the barrel after just five minutes. A speculative shot from distance and a break upfield after Pearson had hit the post gave the Eagles a mountain to climb even before the crowd had exchanged the usual Sunday morning pleasanteries.

Just as the harbingers of doom were professising a heavy defeat, Duffy struck the ball from the halfway line and his lob sailed over the hapless visiting keeper to cut the deficit. With renewed belief Banchory immediately went in search of the equaliser and they got their rewards when a corner from Hector caused havoc in the defence with the ball eventually nestling in the back of the net courtesy of a Lewis defender. Whether our home heroes lost their concentration or were guilty of over-exuberance, credit must go to the visitors who quickly restored their two goal advantage. The goal fest was not complete however; a Duffy shot confused the Lewis keeper and crept into the corner to complete a remarkable first twenty minutes.

End of First Period: Banchory Eagles 3 : 4 Lewis Utd. AFC

The second period was not blessed with quite the same level of excitement. Both teams spurned good opportunities until eventually each scored to maintain the narrowest of leads for the visitors. A stromash in the home penalty area ended when a United boot poked the ball over the line from around 18 inches. The Eagles' riposte was a thing of great beauty; Hector, taking matters into his own hands, embarked on a "maizy", passing two defenders before dispatching the ball past the keeper with considerable venom. Worth the admission fee alone!

End of Second Period: Banchory Eagles : Lewis Utd AFC

The final period followed a similar pattern but it was Lewis who ultimately prevailed with two long range efforts finding the net, the first a furtuitous "clearance" from the halfway line. The final word went to the Eagles however when a great run from Cuthbertson resulted in a low cross finding Davidson at the back post and he finished with ease.

Final Score: Banchory Eagles: 5 : 7 Lewis UTD AFC.

A thought must go out to Banchory midfielder Lewis Duffy who, unlike his teammates, received very little vocal support from the home fans. The usual cries of "C'mon Lewis" were somewhat muted as the "Banchory Massive" were reluctant to give unneccesary encouragement to the away team.

Sunday 5th June

Donside Juvenile FC Bulls 4 : 1 Banchory Eagles

An away day to Alford for a game against a well-organised Donside team. A fine dry day welcomed the small band of dedicated away fans whose vociferous support had been sorely tested by the recent more run of results.

A physical game was forecast prior to kick-off as it was noted that a local paramedic in full uniform was taking the pre-match warm-up for the home side. This thankfully did not transpire and his services were not required. Instead, we were treated to a fair and sporting contest between to committed teams with Banchory again left to wonder where it all went wrong.

The match started in tentative manner with the best chance falling to the home side when a deflected shot came back off the post. Half chances were exchanged thereafter until the opening goal arrived towards the end of the period; a static Banchory defense watched as a Donside midfielder dribbled, unchallenged towards goal before passing the ball into the corner of the net.

Summer football brings with it certain drawbacks, some of which have been covered in earlier reports. One such drawback is the state of the pitches. Following a recent dry spell of biblical proportions (4 days and 4 nights) the ground has become extremely hard making it very difficult to control the ball or judge the unpredictable bounce. There were more bobbles on the pitch than on a tramp's cardigan. The main victim of the poor playing surface was Banchory's hot-shot forward, Hector who broke from the halfway line, ran in on goal and as he prepard to fire the ball into the net with the Banchory Massive high-fiving each other on the sidelines in anticipation of the equaliser the ball bobbled three feet into the air and the chance was gone.

End of First Period: Donside Juvenile FC Bulls 1 : 0 Banchory Eagles

The second period saw several chances come and go for the Eagles. I made copious descriptive notes but it's too painful to type out in full so I'll summarise the key words and phrases as they happened; "..he must score"; "what a stramash"; "penalty ref..."; "what the..?" "he must score this time"; "in the name of ****"; "merde".

Just when it was looking like our young heroes would struggle to hit a bovine's posterior with a small five-stringed musical instrument, they did! Thow weaved his way superbly to the goalline and passed the ball across the face of the goal giving the grateful Hector a simple tap-in.

End of Second Period: Donside Juvenile FC Bulls 1 : 1 Banchory Eagles.

The final period began with Banchory passing up a golden opportunity to take the lead. Millar's shot cannoned off the crossbar and rebounded to B.Strachan who headed over from close range.

Almost immediately, a mix up in the Eagles' defense allowed the Donside forward to steal the ball and almost apologetically tap the ball in. A very cheap goal indeed!

The dramatic backdrop of the adjacent dry ski slope seemed to be mocking the travelling players and supporters as the performance began to slide downhill from this point. Two more goals were conceded; the second, a Bulls hit from the halfway line, left the Banchory players feeling more like Eddie the Eagles.

Sunday 26th June

Banchory Eagles 7 : 2 Paul Lawrie Foundation

The final game of the season and the sun has got its hat on; and his raincoat, wellington boots and brolly. The weather gods continue to take the proverbial with overcast and wet conditions once again greeting the teams. Coach Hector lists his a strong squad in an attempt to finish the season on a high.

The home side start on the front foot and are rewarded within two minutes when good play from Cuthbertson down the right results in a pass across goal giving Duffy a simple task from two yards which he duly takes. Banchory are playing well but PLF are also creating opportunities, the best of which cannons back off the post. The Eagles, however respond in the best way possible; a good move through midfield, Pearson links up with Duffy whose first shot is parried well by the visiting keeper but the Eagles' striker is alert enough to knock home the rebound. There is still time for Thow in the home goal to pull off a magnificent save, tipping a fierce shot onto the bar when a goal looked certain.

End of First Period. Banchory Eagles 2 : 0 Paul Lawrie Foundation.

The rallying call from the coaching staff at the start of the second period is "more of the same" and the the Eagles' duly deliver. Two good chances go a begging before a Duffy shot breaks to Davidson who stroks the ball into the net to re-affirm Banchory's dominance. Almost from the kick-off a shot from distance from Shrive, playing his first game of the season, was parried and hit home by Davidson who was relishing the chances being created by a commanding midfield. A shot on the run from Thomson went just over, then a break from defence saw Davidson link up with Thomson, the latter seeing his shot scrape the outside of the post. Davidson was on hand to complete a quick-fire hat-trick with the best of the three as he skipped inside the last defender and fired a shot high into the net.

End of Second Period. Banchory Eagles 5 : 0 Paul Lawrie Foundation

The final period began with the goal of the game. Thow rolled the ball out to Smith in the left back position, Smith beat his man and delivered a ball to Shrive whose vision picked out Davidson on the left wing; Davidson in turn found Thomson 15 yards from goal and he turned and lobbed the ball over the hapless keeper. You just don't save those!

The home side continued to create chances but a couple of lapses in concentration presented the visitors with some consolation for their efforts, the second goal scored by Eagle old-boy Rennie who finished well from distance.

The final goal of the season came from a Banchory boot. A PLF corner was cleared to Shrive, his pass found Millar in the inside right position and his first time effort from 20 yards found its way into the far corner of the net. A well-deserved reward from one of the most consistent performers of the season.

Final Score. Banchory Eagles 7 : 2 Paul Lawrie Foundation

A fantastic performance from the whole team; passing, movement, confidence and an end product. A great way to end the season which left the home fans eager for the resumption in August.

Sunday 21st August

Culter Colts 2 : 3 Banchory Eagles

A dry, bright morning welcomes the teams for the first game following the summer break. The pitch seems to have recovered well from the scorching heat and long dry spell of the preceeding six weeks!

A notable absentee from the game is Coach Hector having been seconded to Celtic Park to assist Neil Lennon with his team selection and tactics. Coach Duffy took over first team duties for the last time as he has been "headhunted" by the Banchory Pumas (under 10s), and will begin his new career next weekend. We all wish him well.

The game began in tentative fashion as both teams were re-familiarising themselves with the football after the lengthy lay-off. Chances came for both sides before the Eagles established a period of dominance resulting in the opening goal; a through ball from left-back Smith found Davidson who quickly picked out Thow with a cross field pass, the latter dispatching the ball into the far corner.

End of First Period   Culter Colts 0 : 1 Banchory Eagles

Coach Duffy was employing an unothodox three keeper rotation policy with Sangster taking over in goal from Duffy. He could do nothing to prevent the equaliser. The Culter striker heading home unchallenged from a corner. The away defence had no time to recover as Culter struck again to take the lead. The fans feared the worse but the players had other ideas; Thow hitting a shot that was too hot to handle for the home keeper and Isaac pounced to prod the ball home. The Eagles regained their composure and dominated the closing stages of the half.

End of Second Period   Culter Colts  2 : 2 Banchory Eagles

One of the most pleasing aspects of the final period was the superior fitness levels displayed by the Banchory side. They were closing down well, first to most 50:50s and lightening quick on the break with Davidson and Morrison causing havoc in attack. The Eagles third keeper of the game, Thow was rarely called upon to make a save thanks to the efforts of the defence in front of him. As a draw looked inevitable, a cross from the left from Davidson was met first time by Morrison and the ball nestled in the corner. The final whistle sounded just moments later to conclude a very satisfying outing for the Eagles.

Final Score  Culter Colts 2 : 3 Banchory Eagles

MAGs: 2   -  A new lowest MAG attendance. Some supporters were suggesting a lack of commitment from the MAGs. It should be pointed out that this reporter swiftly dismissed such scandalous accusations. Reasons for the low attendance were discussed however; The Debenhams Blue Cross sale?, half price breakfasts at Raemoir Garden Centre?, a mountain of ironing to deal with? We may never know!

Sunday September 25th

Banchory Eagles 2 : 1 Portlethen B.C

A warm, sunny morning greeted both sets of players and supporters as they gathered to witness what would turn out to be a very keenly contested and evenly matched game. The final score more consistent with the professional game than the under 12s!

From the kick-off both sides exchanged half chances with Mackay delivering the first serious shot on goal; well saved by the keeper. It was evident from the start that Thompson's pace and directness was going to cause the visiting defence problems and so it proved as a clearance from the Eagles' defence caught Portlethen on the back foot; Thompson was the quickest to react as he broke through the middle and with just the keeper to beat calmly slotted the ball home for the opening goal.

Defences remained on top during the closing stages of the period however Sangster in the home goal had to stay alert as he foiled the visiting strikers with an excellent double save.

End of First Period:  Banchory Eagles 1 : 0 Portlethen B.C.

Unusually the next twenty minutes elapsed without further scoring. Banchory edged the possession and opportunities with chances falling to Thompson, Duffy and Davidson. Despite some late pressure from Portlethen the home goal was rarely threatened.

End of Second Period: Banchory Eagles 1 : 0 Portlethen B.C.

The final period sprang to life when Thompson was penalised for an accidental hand ball twenty yards from goal. The resulting free kick cannoned off the underside of the crossbar. This seemed to galvanise the visitors and they equalised with their next attack - a shot from distance found the net via the post. Just as Portlethen appeared to be the team in the ascendency, the Eagles hit them on the counter-attack. Smith, in the left back position arrowed a pass up the wing to Davidson who skipped past two defenders on the byline and passed the ball across the 6 yard box where Cousland, doing what all good strikers do, ghosted in unmarked at the back post and restored the home side's lead. He almost repeated the feat two minutes later with a similar move but the shot went just past the post. The goal seemed to take the wind out of the opponents' sails and Banchory held on comfortably through the closing stages.

Final Score:  Banchory Eagles 2 : 1 Portlethen B.C.

An excellent contest played out by both teams with the young Eagles just about deserving the win. The ref didn't have too many difficult decisions to make however a new pea for his whistle wouldn't go amiss.

Sunday 30th October

Glentannar 4 : 4 Banchory Eagles

The Woodside park was bathed in sunshine as the last rays of summer welcomed the teams onto the pitch.

The home side enjoyed the lion's share of the early possession without troubling Mackay in the Eagles' goal. It was somewhat against the run of play when Banchory took the lead with their first attack. Thomson picked the ball up in midfield, knocked it past the advancing defender and lashed an unstoppable shot into the net. The Eagles were now playing with more confidence and Thomson's pace was giving the Glentanar defence all sorts of problems. Despite the ascendancy the equaliser arrived in disappointing fashion. A corner kick was converted with an unchallenged header; too easy! The Eagles regained their composure and the initiative when an incisive run and cross from Davidson was met by Thomson to grab his second.

End of First Period:  Glentanar  1 : 2 Banchory Eagles

Banchory extended their lead early in the second period. Some neat interplay between Smith and Cuthbertson saw the ball break to Davidson who fired a left foot shot into the corner. The Eagles had their tails up and the one touch passing and movement was a joy to behold; reminiscent of the current Barcelona side or the Dutch masters of '78 or even the great Broughty United side of '82. Their complete dominance was emphasised with a fourth goal. A corner from Davidson deflected off a home defender and nestled in the back of the net. Just when it looked like their was only going to be one winner Glentanar tapped in a couple of close range efforts to reduce the deficit. As the period was drawing to a close Glentanar's number 18 crumpled in a heap a good two yards from his nearest opponent. After a lengthy period of treatment it was understood he would take no further part in the game. As Glentanar didn't have a substitute to call upon Coach Hector agreed to withdraw an Eagle to ensure the game could continue with parity. The "injured" player's powers of recovery were nothing short of miraculous when at the end of the match he wandered, unaided back onto the pitch to take his penalty! Confortably saved by Sangster in the Banchory goal.

End of Second Period  Glentanar BC 3 : 4 Banchory Eagles

The third period was fairly uneventful.  The change in numbers and formation seemed to upset Banchory's rythmn and the home side forced an equaliser with 5 minutes remaining.

Final Score Glentanar BC 4 : 4 Banchory Eagles

Verdict; The one that got away! Glentanar will be delighted with a share of the spoils as the Eagles dominated for long spells but seemed to be knocked off their stride in the final period. It's disappointing enough to watch senior professionals ruin a game with play-acting without having to witness it at under 12 level.

Sunday 6th November

Stonehaven  3 : 8 Banchory Eagles

As the players, parents and coaching staff rose from their slumber they were met by the first day of the Deeside winter. A white ground frost covered the streets and surely a postponment was inevitable. The expected e-mail never arrived so we all made our way across to the coastal town of Stonehaven with hats, gloves, scarves, thermals and hip-flasks..., or was that just me? A mere 16 miles later however and we had somehow been transported to the first day of spring. No frost, no biting wind; in fact the only evidence that winter was approaching was the sight of the young Eagles and their entourage making their way across the playing fields looking like they were embarking on a polar expedition.

The game started in perfect playing conditions with Banchory settling well and testing the home keeper on a couple of ocassions before Stonehaven took the iniative and after hitting the bar with a free kick they scored not once, but twice.

End of First Period:   Stonehaven 2 : 0 Banchory Eagles

If some of the Eagles had not yet thawed out they would certainly have felt the heat from Coach Hector's team talk and it seemed to prompt the desired response. Thow in the Banchory goal pulled of a fabulous save at the start of the second period to keep the visitors in the game, after which they took control. A cross from Smith on the left caused confusion in the penalty area until Duffy prodded home from close range. Duffy soon restored parity when his well-struck free-kick eluded the keeper's grasp and nestled in the back of the net. It wasn't all one way traffic and Thow proved his worth for the second time with an amazing one handed save from a shot that looked certain to find the top corner. Banchory resumed control and took the lead for the first time with a superb angled drive on the run from Thomson. The Eagles were now in full flight and an unorthodox pass from Smith, a knee-volley to Isaac, was cooly dispatched by the latter to extend the away side's lead.

End of Second Period:  Stonehaven 2 : 4 Banchory Eagles

Banchory picked up the third period from where they left off and Thomson's pace and eye for goal was too much for the home defence; another fierce shot across the keeper found the net for the Eagles fifth. Thomson's hat-trick arrived in similar fashion, another angled shot was in the net before the keeper could move. More opportrunities came and went for Banchory. Coach Hector decided to give Thow and run outfield and he was replaced in goal by Sangster. The move seemed to have momentarily backfired when Stoney pulled a goal back, however Coach  Hector's decision-making process could not be questioned and Thow promtly got his name on the scoresheet not once but twice. The first goal had "Archie Gemmell '78" written all over; a mazy run past three defenders ending with an assured pass into the bottom corner. This was followed soon after by a forceful run and finish from the star striker/keeper!

Final Score   Stonehaven  3 : 8 Banchory Eagles.

Verdict: A manager's reputation is built on his decision-making prowess when his team are up against it. A change in formation, a switch in the goalkeeper position and an inspired series of substitutions turned a potentially embarrasing reverse into a comfortable victory.

NEW SEASON:  Sunday 4th March 2012

Banchory Eagles v Culter Colts

After enjoying a friendly victory last week against Lewis United in glorious sunshine the conditions could not be more different as the Eagles welcomed Culter to Knockburn for the first game of the season. Rain, sleet and a biting wind with snow on the surrounding hills; this was more reminiscent of the end of May "fun day" than springtime.

Banchory started on the front foot with Davidson forcing the keeper into a smart save and Thomson rattling the crossbar. Completely against the run of play Culter take the lead with a cross from the right prodded home amidst a static home defence. Culter enjoyed a brief period of pressure before the Eagles regained parity with a well taken equaliser. The ball fell to Thomson, his awareness found Smith with a cute back heel and the latter took one touch before rifling the ball under the keeper.

End of First Period.  Banchory Eagles   1 : 1   Culter Colts

Banchory assumed control from the start of the second period. Quick goals from Thomson and Davidson and a comfortably dispatched penalty from Duffy following a blatant push from the Culter defender put the home side on easy street, or so we thought!  The visitors showed character in scoring twice before the whistle to reduce the deficit to just one goal with twenty minutes remaining.

End of second preiod.  Banchory Eagles  4  :  3 Culter Colts

The Eagles, having taken an earbashing from the coaching staff at the interval came out for the final period in determined mood.  Substitute Morrison showed his value to the team with good control and a fierce shot into the roof of the net. Duffy then passed to Davidson who also showed no mercy, lashing the ball home from 10 yards. It was all Banchory now and the Culter side's spirit was finally broken when Davidson, imperioius in midfield threaded a ball through to Duffy who rounded the keeper and netted the home side's seventh. There was still time for Duffy to complete a highly satisfactory morning for the Eagles with his hat trick and the team's eighth.

One or two scares along the way but a very encouraging start to the season and, in the end, a comfortable victory for the bookies' favourites..

Banchory Eagles v Middlefield Wasps.

Normal service  was been resumed as both sides arrive to a pitch bathed in early spring sunshine vindicating the decision for summer football.

The match began in tentative manner, particularly the home side who were looking a little sluggish and were fortunate not to find themselves behind as the Wasps managed to find the woodwork on no less than three ocassions. Shots from Thow and Issac the only notable opportunities for a lacklustre Banchory side.

End of First Period.   Banchory Eagles   0 : 0 Middlefield Wasps.

The home side get the lift they desparately need right from the kick off when the ball breaks to Clements who "Davy Narey's" it into the top corner from 15 yards.  The visitors were back on level terms when they were awarded a direct free kick which evaded the Banchory defence and found its way into the net. Clements, clearly encouraged by his opener was on hand to prod the ball home after a neat move involving Smith and Duffy. The latter performing a "Cruyff turn" before crossing the ball for a grateful Clements to finish.

End of Second Period   Banchory Eagles  2  :  1 Middlefield Wasps

The introduction of Duffy towards the end of the second period was evidently a coaching masterstroke. As the away side were tiring Duffy took full advantage with four close range efforts to win him the match ball and provide a comfortable if a little flattering final scoreline for the young Eagles.

Final Score    Banchory Eagles    6  : 1  Middlefield Wasps

Peterhead Athletic  v Banchory Eagles

Despite the warm and sun-drenched surroundings of the league's most northern outpost the away side began sluggishly and failed to really take a grip of the game. The result was a first defeat of the season on a ground that the Eagles are not traditionally too fond of. Both seasonal adjustments and the fixture list seemed to conspire against the Banchory side with the longest away trip coinciding with the arrival of  British Summer Time. All concerned could be excused for being a little tired, except of course, most of the MAGs who were apparently still in bed, (not the same one!).

The home side took the lead when a speculative shot from distance sailed over Sangster in the Eagles' goal. Mackay and Hector both spurned chances from close range before Clements found Mackay and the latter fired a left foot shot across the keeper into the far corner for an encouraging equaliser.

End of First Period:   Peterhead Athletic 1 : 1   Banchory Eagles

Peterhead assumed control for much of the second period scoring immediately after the restart and hitting the bar with their next attack. The Eagles absorbed some intense pressure from the Blue Tooners before hitting back in sensational fashion. A free kick was awarded after Pearson, who broke from the halfway line, was ruthlessly chopped from behind. The away support's protests went unheeded as the referee failed to administer a yellow card to Pearson's assailant. Justice was done however as Hector stepped up to the plate and curled a majestic free-kick over the wall and into the top left hand postage stamp. An early contender for goal of the season and certainly worth the ardous journey.

End of Second Period:  Peterhead Athletic  2 : 2 Banchory Eagles

The half-time refreshments caused quite a stir as the word "cappucino" was whispered on the sidelines. The whisper did, however carry to the adjacent pitch and was met with a mixtutre of admiring glances and "Fa de they think they are?" from the bewildered locals. Peterhead is evidently not quite ready for the introduction of posh coffee!

The final period began with two quick goals from the home side which seemed to put the result beyond doubt but Banchory's character can never be questioned and they countered with a swift break from the half way line with the tireless Clements calmly dispatching the ball past the dispairing keeper. The Eagles looked like they would go on to equalise until a clearance from defence landed at the feet of a Peterhead midfielder who lashed the ball back into an unguarded net.

Banchory Eagles v Glentanar BCA

It's winter this week and the hats and gloves are making an unwelcome return. One of the MAGs admitted to wearing six layers, one of which was her son's team jacket... desperate times call for desperate measures!

With the opposition arriving with just seven players and no substitutes the general consensus was that the Eagles' fitness would prove crucial in the latter stages and so it proved. The home side started the brighter with Thomson having a couple of opportunities before Smith found Davidson in the inside left channel, his cross was inch perfect for Duffy to tap in from close range.  Banchory kept up the pressure but against the run of play they conceded an equaliser... this reporter was chatting to the crowd and missed the action but I'm sure it was a fluke! Undeterred, the home side were back on the offensive and a cross from Hector looked to be creeping in when Duffy made sure. The latter magnanimously credited the goal to Hector so no need for the "dubious goals panel" to adjudicate on that one.

End of First Period.     Banchory Eagles  2 : 1 Glentanar

Any thought that Banchory were going to run away with this one were temporarily dispelled when a clearance from Sangster landed at the feet of an opposing midfielder who expertly guided the ball back over the home defence into an unguarded net for a surprise equaliser. To suggest that the Eagles' frontmen were somewhat profligate during the next ten minutes would be palying down the situation. After Cuthbertson rattled the crossbar, a succession of opportunities were spurned, each looking easier to score than the previous one. Just when frustration seemed to be creeping in both with the players and the hypothermic supporters Cuthbertson took matters into his own hands and had another go from distance; this time finding the top corner. This seemed to settle the home side and the goals started to flow. Following a goalmouth stramash Thomson turned and lashed the ball past the dispairing keeper. Strachan and Morrison had been introduced and the latter quickly sent out  message to Coach Hector with a quickfire hat trick. The first, a smart finish from a couple of yards out. The second, a run through the middle onto a Davidson cross and a calm sidefoot finish. The third, a through ball from Cuthbertson controlled and dispatched with aplomb.

End of Second Period.   Banchory Eagles  7 : 2  Glentanar.

The home side took their foot off the pedal in the final period but still maintained control and created the lion share of the chances. Glentannar grabbed a final consolation before a Hector shot from distance found the top corner for a spectacular end to the scoring.

For all you "stats." fans out there this was the Eagles' fourth win in their last five competitive games including the final game of last season. Three of those wins have been by the unlikely score of 8-3!

Sunday 8th April

Turriff Bombers  1 : 3 Banchory Eagles

The second longest away trip of the season sees the Eagles' faithful being met by a damp, precipitous morning as the team takes to the extremely heavy pitch for the warm-up.

Early pressure from Banchory with attempts from Duffy, Cuthbertson and Issac before the latter pounced on a fumble from the keeper following a fierce shot from Duffy and tapped the ball home.

The away side continued to dominate with the best passage of play resulting with a cross from Hector finding Mackay on the left; the striker put everything behind the goalbound shot but the Turriff keeper threw himself at it and saved spectacularly.

End of First Period:  Turriff Bombers 0 : 1 Banchory Eagles.

The second period was dominated by an unfortunate injury to Eagles' left back Smith. As the Turriff striker was through on goal and about to pull the trigger from three yards out Smith slid in and executed the perfect tackle, conceding a corner, preserving his side's lead and puting himself out of action for a couple of weeks with a back injury.

Shortly afterwards the home side were back in it with a scrappy equaliser as Banchory tried re-organise their defence following Smith's departure.

End of Second Period:  Turriff Bombers 1  :  1 Banchory Eagles

The final period followed a similar pattern to the majority of the games so far this season with the Eagles' determination and superior fitness proving fruitful. Following a couple of good saves from the Bomber's keeper Morrison controlled and expertly touched the ball through to Davidson who fired  hard and low into the net. With the next attack Davidson was upended so uncerimoniously in the box that a penalty was inevitable, or so you would of thought! With the game so finely poised however the "referee" decided to wave away the justifiable claims. The Eagles were not to be denied and soon extended their lead; a through ball from Duffy found Morrison who turned and shot home in one graceful movement. This was no more than the away side deserved and the only surprise was that the scoreline not being more emphatic.

A good solid win with clinical finishing and a solid and disciplined defensive display.

Banchory Eagles  v  Stonehaven.

Great credit must go to the groundstaff, who despite the the residents of Deeside waking up to a most unwelcome blanket of snow, declared the pitch playable much to the obvious delight of the hardy supporters. The snow having cleared made for a pleasant morning but for the wind chill factor which dropped the actual temperature to minus 24!

The Eagles were flying from the kick off. After a number of early opportunities the visitors' resistance was finally broken with Morrison neatly tucking away a Christie pass. With a long season ahead and the introduction of 11-a-side matches on the horizon the value of a large squad is crucial. This was borne out when debutant Christie, desperate to impress after patiently waiting for his opportrunity, scored two goals in quick succession. A smart turn and shot from four yards followed by a poacher's goal following a mis-hit from Duffy.

The home side continued to dominate with Duffy and Davidson going close.

End of First Period:  Banchory Eagles  3  :  0 Stonehaven.

The second period continued in similar vein with numerous chances being spurned before Davidson stabbed the ball home from close range at the second attempt.  Banchory continued to press but with a combination of poor finishing and determined defending there was no further scoring.

End of Second Period:  Banchory Eagles  4 : 0 Stonehaven

As the final period began Coach Hector suggested that the home side's fitness levels should start to make a difference as the away side tire. As usual he was spot on!

A flood of goals followed to give the final scoreline a more accurate appearance if a little unfair on the Stonehaven side who stuck to their task and were causing a few problems on the break.

5 - 0:  Ball out wide left to Davidson who steps inside and lashes the ball high into the net.

6 - 0:  Davidson again eludes his marker and fires the ball high into the top left hand corner.

7 - 0:  Inswinging cross from Hector, a flicked header from Duffy re-directing the ball into the net.

8 - 0:  Quick counter attack. Thow deservedly getting on the scoresheet firing low under the keeper.

9 - 0:  Shot from Davidson saved, the rebound fired home by the ever alert Morrison.

Sangster kept his concentration, despite a relatively trouble free game, with a couple of smart saves as the game moved to it's conclusion. Encouraging debuts for both Christie and Thomas (surname to follow). A constant goal threat from the usual suspects; Morrison; Davidson and Duffy. Another imperious performance from the ever reliable Cuthbertson. Excellent wide play and delivery from Hector and an extremely focussed and energetic display from Thow.

Friendly: Glentanar  5  :  4 Bacnhory Eagles.

After three weeks of inactivity Coach Hector decided enough was enough and arranged a friendly against top-flight Glentannar. The weather outside was, of course, dry, bright and clear. The game, however was being played indoors at Aberdeen Sports Village!

The match proved to be an excellent, keenly-fought contest with the initiative swinging from one to the other. The Eagles were certainly not overawed and after an uncertain start, as they became familiar with the surface, they dominated for long spells and undoubtedly created the lion share of the chances.

The early pressure from the home side resulted in two quick goals. Banchory were not deterred however and an incisive pass through the defence from Duffy found Thomson who calmly dispatched his shot under the keeper to reduce the deficit.

End of First Period.  Glentannar  2  :  1 Banchory Eagles.

The second period was just a minute old when the home side restored their two goal advantage. The visitors came roaring back following a tactical masterstroke from the coaching staff. The ball found Morrison at the back post, his shot across goal landed at the feet of Davidson who squeezed the ball over the line from two inches. Within minutes the scores were level; Duffy found Davidson on the right wing, the striker cut in and gave the keeper the eyes before firing a vicious left foot strike into the corner. The Eagles were flying (must think of a new analogy), and creating chances before Cuthbertson fired in the goal of the game and, arguably the season. A corner was cleared to the edge of the box (if there had been a box) and a first-time half volley from the aforementioned central defender rocketed into the top corner. A worldy!!

The whistle sounded with the Eagles in command and soaring (that's better)!

End of Second Period.  Glentannar 3  :  4 Banchory Eagles.

The final 30 minutes (an extension to the allotted time) was very open with chances being created by both sides and Banchory passing up the best of them. They were to pay for this as the hosts came back with two soft goals to take the game by the narrowest of margins.

Final Score.  Glentannar  5  :  4  Banchory Eagles.

Another fantastic performance from the Eagles. From back to front they played the better passing game, created the majority of chances and ensured that their hosts had to fight to the end to secure the win.
